The Market Arcade 8 in downtown Buffalo is reopening this April, promising a revitalized moviegoing experience for locals and visitors.

Scene One Entertainment Group, a company from Schenectady, is taking over the historic former AMC Theater in its debut venture into Western New York.

Owner Joe Masher expressed excitement about restoring the venue, crediting the partnership with Benchmark Group for making the opportunity possible.

The theater will offer a diverse lineup, including first-run Hollywood films, independent features, foreign movies, and classics.

Plans also include a full bar, pending state approval, adding a fresh social dimension.

Mayor Sean Ryan sees the reopening as a catalyst for downtown’s comeback, supporting Main Street businesses and fueling new energy in the Theatre District.

The Buffalo Sabres and KeyBank joined forces at KeyBank Center to empower women through their recent Women's Heart Healthy Workshop, focusing on heart health advocacy and education.

This event, part of the HocKey Assists program, provided hands-on CPR training, keynote speakers, and interactive educational stations.

Speakers included Anna Heerdt from the American Heart Association, whose mother is a heart transplant survivor, and survivors like Rosalind Burgin and nurse practitioner Melissa Archer.

The local impact resonated, as Sabres owner Kim Pegula and captain Rasmus Dahlin’s fiancée both faced cardiac emergencies.

The workshop highlighted heart disease’s disproportionate toll on Black women, with staggering statistics shared by the American Heart Association.

KeyBank’s Chiwuike Owunwanne stressed outreach and education for those most at risk.

Attendees learned to “know their numbers” and recognize symptoms, while receiving training to respond in emergencies.

This initiative affirms the Sabres and KeyBank’s commitment to Buffalo’s women and heart health.
